Music Comedy and Poetry

Welcome to My First Friday’s – a variety show like no other.  Its a place where people from all walks of life come to experience the arts performed by up-and-coming artists and those looking for a platform to share their passion… Its a place where you can make new friends… support and uplift each other… and most importantly, to relax and have a good time.

Since its humble beginnings at the barbershop, where many guests would sit on the floor or lounge on the couch,  My First Friday’s has become a staple in the Los Angeles nightlife, providing an outlet for various artists across the country.

My First Friday’s opened its doors in October of 2004 at In the Zone Barbershop, owned and operated by Kelvin Truitt, in effort to provide people a positive place to go in the Valley.  As a graduate from California State University, Northridge, and only minutes away from the shop, Truitt recruited friends to spread the word on campus about his new venture.

Every month, people would drive from all over LA to be entertained and not have to worry about spending a lot of money.  So when In the Zone Barbershop relocated in the summer of 2008, Truitt knew it was time for My First Friday’s to find a new home large enough hold its growing crowd.

In its first week, the crowd doubled in attendance and has never looked back.

So, why do people love it so much?  This is no ordinary open-mic.  My First Friday’s is a variety show that showcases a live house-band, comedy, improv acting, singing, rap, spoken word, and dance in a CLEAN atmosphere.  That means, no foul language or extreme sexual lyrics are allowed.

No matter who you are, age or lifestyle, My First Friday’s is for EVERYONE, and you don’t have to compromise your faith or integrity to have a good time.

No need for alcohol, we get our buzz from music.

Bring your friends every first Friday of the month, and be ready to be entertained.
